Streaming Windows Media Files: Specific to Audio Files
:: Encode Windows Media With Windows Media Encoder V 7.1
If you don't already have it, download and install Windows Media Encoder V 7.1
These very basic instructions are specific to Windows Media Encoder V 7.1. You can encode both .wav and .mp3 files with this program.
After opening the program:
On the first screen, select "Broadcast, capture, or convert a file using the new session wizard", and click "next"
Select Convert an audio or video file into a Windows Media File.
Make sure "Begin converting when this wizard finishes" IS checked, and click "next"
Browse to find the .wav or .mp3 file you want to encode on your computer
Browse to the location you'd like your .wma file to reside after it's encoded, and give it a name, and click "next"
Choose the profile you'd like to use. Since the file will stream, I always choose "Audio For CD Quality (96 kbps stereo), then click "next"
It will then begin encoding your .wma file. When it is complete, you can opt to view your output file. Try it out if you like. When you're through, close the Media Player and close the Encoding Results Screen.
You are now ready to view examples of different styles of playing your .wma files and the code to put on your web pages to stream them.
